Mr. Obama, tear down this "PATRIOT" act!
Back up the campaign-trail talk about civil liberties with real action: demand that a repeal of this abomination be on your desk no later than the end of your first week in office. Given your party's control of the congress, you are the lone obstacle to blotting out this shameful spot.

They voted yes when there was no alternative- it was the patriot act or nothing. Now they have 4 years to write their own version and repeal the old one. I'd be surprised if it didn't happen- but I'd also be surprised if it happened fast because Obama would want an alternative in place immediately.

I could not agree more. Dictator Bush has literally stripped away the Constitution bit by bit. Obama clearly stands for the people and should be able to reshape America.

OH YES!!! The very term 'Patriot Act' makes me cringe with shame.
Just because the election is over doesn't mean that our job is done. It is our duty, as citizens of a Democracy, to use every method at our disposal to undo the atrocities perpetrated by the abominable Bush administration. Write, blog, phone, put up posters, wear buttons, contact your congressional representatives and NEVER give up until this despicable and unconstitutional act is repealed!
Obama voted for telecomm immunity in the FISA bill just a few months ago. No chance this is going to happen, but you can Hope (TM).
The Patriot Act is a disgrace. But don't hold your breath waiting for Obama to dismantle it. Power, once acquired, is rarely given up by government.
Just think, some devastating terrorist attack could happen in the next year or two, with or without the Patriot Act. If it happens without the Patriot Act, all the politicians who helped to dismantle it will not be able to duck the criticism that will be leveled against them.
I'm audacious enough to hope President Obama will get rid of it, but if I had to bet, I would bet against it -- and not a small sum, either.
In the next 8 years, you will see more changes to the script of Hamlet than you will see in The Patriot Act.

It would be wonderful if Obama would repeal or at least attempt to repeal the PATRIOT Act, but unfortunately him and Biden both voted to reauthorise it.
Hopefully one day we will see this abomination dismantled.

I agree wholly. At the same time dissolve DHS and the gestapo at the borders. People throughout the world cheered Obama`s victory because they have heard his message and they expect it to make freedom sing.
